Giese and Ito Repeat as Conference Champions

Sophomores Madi Giese and Lina Ito repeated as South Coast Conference doubles champions after defeating the duo from Cerritos, 8-4, in the finals Monday afternoon at Cerritos College.

Ito and Giese were the No. 1 overall seed at the tournament and cruised to the finals, dropping just one game in the quarterfinals and semifinals.

The duo took on Moa Lindstrom and Alba Gonzalez from Cerritos in the finals and emerged victorious for their second straight doubles conference championship.

Giese and Ito went 11-2 during the regular season and enter the CCCAA State Championships with a 13-2 overall record.

In other action, Giese finished second overall in the individual competition, falling to Lindstrom in the finals, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

The Warriors open the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs Tuesday afternoon on the road against Irvine Valley. It is the second meeting between the teams. The Lasers defeated the Warriors, 6-3, on Feb. 19 at the ECC Tennis Courts.
