The Long Beach City College Vikings opened their brand new softball complex with a 4-2 victory over Orange Coast College to kick off the 2022 season.

Sophomore pitcher Daisy Torres (1-0) earned her first win in the circle with only allowing the Pirates to two runs on seven hits, while shutting out seven.

The Pirates were first on the board in the top of the first with an RBI triple to center field. Then when the Vikings were up in the bottom of the first, sophomore third baseman Illeana Rivera doubled to center field knocking in sophomore second baseman Jade Wittman and freshman shortstop Jaylene Ross to take the lead 2-1.

In the top of the third, the Pirates got back on the board with an RBI double, but the Vikings were ready to battle and sophomore left fielder Noelany Benitez hit a sacrifice fly to score in freshman designated player Jennifer Aguilar.

In the fifth inning, Rivera wasn't done yet as she smashed a double to left field to score in Wittman for the Viking's final run and take the 4-2 win over Orange Coast.

The Vikings will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 3 at Rio Hondo College for their first South Coast Conference game at 3 p.m.
