Taking on crosstown rival Long Beach City College on Wednesday, the Cerritos College women's water polo team dropped a 15-5 decision for their first South Coast Conference defeat. The Falcons (6-9, 4-1) dropped to third place in the conference standings and will host a one-day tournament this Friday. The team will take on West Valley College at 9:00 a.m. before playing Palomar College at 2:30 p.m.

In the loss to the Vikings (12-5, 5-0), Cerritos found themselves down, 6-0 in the second quarter until sophomore Miranda Alvarez (Schurr HS) got the team on the scoreboard. The goals were tough to come by against Long Beach City, as they scored on only five of their 20 attempts. Last-minute goals from freshman Anabella Gama (Cerritos HS) and sophomore Angelina Romero (Schurr HS) got the team to within 8-4 at halftime.

The teams traded goals to start the third quarter until Long Beach City recorded the last six goals of the game to come away with the win.

Romero (two assists, two steals) and Alvarez (two assists) each scored twice for the Falcons, while Kaya Glynn (Cerritos HS) led the defense with four steals. Goalie Alyssa Sorrells (Bell Gardens HS) turned away 11 shots and added three steals.
