Women Volleyball Sweep Glendale 3-0

Women's Volleyball vs Glendale

(Walnut, CA) How Sweep it is! The Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball Team swept the visiting Glendale Vaqueros in dominating fashion Wednesday night, September 5 at the Mounties Gym in a nonconference match.

With scores of 25-5, 25-10, 25-15, Mt. SAC improved to 1-2 in nonconference action. They travel to San Diego this weekend, September 7-8, to play in the San Diego Mesa College Tournament. Their first match is against Cypress College.

"I'm proud of our aggressiveness tonight," Mt. SAC coach Ali Carey-Oliver said. "We need to continue to work to speed up our offense and stay disciplined on defense. We did a good job executing and made a big improvement on finishing the rallies."

The Mounties dropped their first two matches of the season to Grossmont and Fullerton.

"Last week was tough," Carey-Oliver said. "We started off very strong against Grossmont and our nerves got the best of us in the end. We started slow against Fullerton and just couldn't recover quick enough to push them to five games. We're excited to get down to the Mesa tournament and I look forward to seeing how the squad performs there."

The Mounties totaled 31 kills in the match, led by freshman outside hitter Jessica Morse (4 Digs) with a match-high nine, followed by seven from sophomore middle blocker Lindsey Lane (3 Digs).

Sophomore outside hitter Alysha Tullar (3 Digs, 2 Service Aces) and sophomore middle blocker Shaianne Palos (2 Digs) had four kills each and freshman outside hitter Macy Barnes (4 Digs) added three kills.

Sophomore defensive specialist Malia Carr led the team with 10 digs and a match-high five service aces.

Sophomore setter Kierra Coatney (2 K, SA, 2 Digs) led the team with 10 assists followed by seven from sophomore Brianda Valdez (2 Digs). Freshman setter Janderi Ceja added six assists.
