(Walnut, CA) For the first time in the brief history of the Mt. SAC Beach Volleyball program, the Mounties completed a two-match, South Coast Conference sweep at "Walnut Beach" Friday (April 15).

Mt. SAC, which is in its fourth season of Beach competition, opened the double-dual with a close, 3-2 win over LBCC and completed the sweep with an afternoon, 4-1, victory over Rio Hondo.

With the two wins, the Mounties evened their record at 10-10 overall and 4-4 in conference play.

"I'm so proud of the girls for winning both matches and finishing off our last home game like that," Mt. SAC Beach Volleyball coach Danielle Diaz said.

"They all came in focused and ready to play.

"I made a few changes in our lineup and moved Alicia (Patterson) and Savanna (Corrales) to a 3's pair, rather than a 4's pair and they were able to get both big wins for the team. It's been awesome to see the two of them improve so much.

"Alicia and Savanna really pulled it out for us. I told them we're two-up (2-2 in sets) right now and we need you guys to get this win. They were playing aggressive and fearless and I'm so proud of them."

They won both of their matches in the two team wins over Rio and Long Beach.

Also sweeping both of their matches Friday were the 4's (Riannel Arevalo/Bristol Christelman) and the 5's (Victoria Arnold/Kylie Rhodes).

"We're performing at the highest level right now," Mt. SAC beach Volleyball coach Danielle Diaz said.

In the first match (Friday) against Long Beach, the Mounties were tied at 2-2 with one pair (3's) to go. The three's, (Corrales/Patterson), swept the Vikings, 21-17, 21-19 for the win and the match over LBCC, 3-2.

It was the first time the Mounties have beaten LBCC in their four years as a program.

In the afternoon match against Rio Hondo, after losing to Long Beach in the morning match, the 1's (DeGroot/Whiteman) rebounded and swept their opponents, 2-0, to go 1-1 on the day.

The Mounties are in fourth place, just behind College of the Desert (4-3) in the conference, with two matches remaining in the regular season.

The SCC pairs tournament begins April 29 at LBCC.
