Chargers keep streak alive with 7th straight win

CYPRESS,CA- The women's basketball team got out to a hot start and defeated the Santa Ana Dons (7-10, 1-2 OEC) on Wednesday night 65-54. #16 Cypress is (13-3, 2-0 OEC) as they currently sit in third place in the conference.

The Lady Chargers put the pressure on from the jump when they full court pressed the Dons and created steal after steal. The Chargers tallied 8 steals in the first quarter and got out to a 22-5 lead. The second quarter was a different story as Santa Ana fought back by knocking down 5 three-pointers and pulling within 10 by halftime. Cypress stayed hot on the defensive end forcing the Dons to turn the ball over 26 times as they coasted to a 65-54 victory.

Pressila Blanco was a force all night and did it all for Cypress. She totaled 18 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 blocks to post her best overall game of the season. The Chargers dominated the paint all night where Sarah Welch tacked on 12 of the 38 paint points scored by Cypress. 4 of the starting 5 managed to reach double figures in a well balanced OEC victory.

UP NEXT: The Chargers will go on the road this Friday, January 17, where they will take on Saddleback. Tip off will be at 5:00pm where the Lady Chargers will look to keep their 7 game win streak alive.
