Football: No. 19 Golden West Shuts Down No. 1 Riverside with 37-20 road win

RIVERSIDE, Calif - The number 19th ranked Golden West College football team went on the road to number one ranked Riverside City College and dominated the Tigers in 37-20 road victory. 

Golden West took all the momentum in the opening 20 minutes of the game as the defense forced three straight punts and the offense scored on their first three drives. The Rustlers jumped out to an early 17-0 lead early in the second quarter on a Jake Retzlaff six yard run, a Jake Cipres 35 yard field goal, and a Tanner Branson 11 yard reception from Retzlaff. The offense tallied over 450 yards of total offense with four of the Rustlers' five touchdowns coming through the air. Furthermore, the offense gain a season high 6.2 yards-per-play highlighted by an their 9.6 yards-per pass play.

Freshman quarterback Retzalff would record his best game of the young season completing 18 of 31 passes for 299 yards with four touchdowns and one rushing. Freshman wide out Tanner Branson led the receiveing corps with five catches for 72 yards and two touchdowns. 

The defense showed out again as they recorded six tackles for loss, receovered two fumbles, and freshman linebacker Khilyn Neal recorded the defenses lone sack. 

Golden West will host Long Beach City College in their week five matchup before the bye week on October 2nd with a 1pm kickoff.
