(Torrance, CA) After two overtime periods, Mt. San Antonio College (15-6-2) and El Camino College (17-2-3) were unable to break their 2-2 tie in the third round of the California Community College Athletic Association South Region playoffs, so penalty kicks decided the winner.

The Mounties outscored the Warriors, 5-3, on PKs to earn a spot in the next round against South Coast Conference South Division and SCC champion Cerritos College (21-0-2) on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 2 p.m. in Norwalk. The winner will receive a berth in the CCCAA State Championships, which will take place on Dec. 2 and 4 at American River College in Sacramento.

This will be the third time the teams have met this season, with the Falcons winning, 2-1, in an SCC crossover game on Oct. 11, and again in the conference tournament championship game, 3-2, on Nov. 11.

On Tuesday against El Camino, the Warriors held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half, then Alex Mendez put Mt. SAC on the board with an unassisted goal at the 52:46 mark to tie the score. The Mounties took the lead, 2-1, with an unassisted goal by Jason A. Garcia at the 56:15 mark, only to see El Camino tie the game at the 63:15 mark to eventually force overtime.

Jacob Cardenas tended goal for nearly 118 minutes for Mt. SAC, making four saves.

In the PK shootout, Mendez, Andrew Vazquez, Edward Castro, Felipe Cobian, and Jacob Cervantes each found the back of the net to send the Mounties to the next round.
