Beach Volleyball Finishes Strong With Back-to-Back Wins Against Santa Ana

Huntington Beach, CA - Cypress women's volleyball (3-3, 3-3 OEC) hosted Santa Ana College (0-4-2, 0-4-2 OEC) at the Newland Courts in Huntington Beach on Friday afternoon. The Chargers won their doubleheader against the Dons, closing out their 2021 season, 5-0, 4-1. 

The Chargers were looking for redemption and came out strong during the first match against the Dons. In match one, Cypress claimed victory in the #1, #2, and #3 matchups. Alexis Flores and Miranda Telles won both sets against Santa Ana's Frida Arreola and Aubree Macdonald, 21-14 and 21-13. Mary Hicks and Lauren Adamo defeated Courtney Gomez and Jordan Ninmer, 21-6 and 21-3, in their first match of the day. Jamie Choi and Kaelie Tulette were tied and had a win under their belts going into the third set. They battled in a back and forth game and won the match 15-4. The Chargers swept the competition with a 5-0 win in match one.

In game two, Alexis Flores and Miranda Telles defeated Santa Ana's number ones, 21-9 and 21-9. Jamie Choi and Kaelie Tulette found themselves in a similar situation to game one and were tied going into set three. After putting up a tough fight, the pair fell a little short allowing Santa Ana to take their lone win of the day. Allison Arriolla and Alyssa Hernandez came out victorious in the third pairing defeating Santa Ana's Gomez and Salazar, 21-11 and 21-7. Coach Nancy Welliver is proud of the team's efforts this season and looks forward to returning to the sand for the off-season in the fall.
