Riverside Forges Past IVC in CCCAA SoCal Semifinals

The Riverside City College women's tennis team hosted the Irvine Valley College Lasers in the second round of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California playoffs. The Tigers and Lasers met twice in the regular season with Riverside earning two victories. The trend continued as the Tigers dominated the Lasers leading to a 5-0 triumph.

Riverside began the day on a doubles tear by sweeping the field. Freshman Hannah Stevenson and sophomore Emilia Lopez hauled in the first victory of the match as the number three pairs team by the final score of 8-0. Sophomore Heather Graf and freshman Yasmin Johnson linked up as the second pairing and worked towards an 8-3 victory, while freshman duo Torrey Mateljan and Maxelle Bernie earned a 9-7 win as the top pair.

The Tigers only needed two singles victories to haul in the team win and they did so with ease. Freshman Miranda Cardenas snagged a 6-0, 6-0 win at the sixth position, while Stevenson followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the fourth position leading to the team win.

Riverside (17-2, 8-2 OEC) will continue action in the Southern California Regional finals against the Orange Coast College Pirates on the road Saturday, April 20 at 2 p.m.
