Beach Volleyball: Roadrunners secure third-place conference finish, SCC Pairs tourney up next

WALNUT – Rio Hondo College wrapped up a solid South Coast Conference schedule by finishing in third place in the final conference standings with a 4-4 record. On Friday, the Roadrunners split their final two matches of the regular season, cruising to a 5-0 sweep of Cerritos College before falling to host Mt. San Antonio College 4-1.

Rio Hondo compiled a program-best 15-4 overall record as the Roadrunners head into the postseason. The Roadrunners return to action on Friday (Apr. 28) when they open play at the South Coast Conference Pairs Championships that will be held at Long Beach City College.

The duo of Lee and Oronoz are seeded No. 5 for the tourney. They will receive a first-round bye and will play the winner of teammates (No. 12) Wada and Fuentes vs. (No. 21) McKayla Varela and Brandi Ramirez from Long Beach.

Also seeded for the tournament, Mader and Denisse Sanchez are No. 9, Martinez and Zuniga are No. 15, and Daniela Sanchez and Petterez are No. 25. The Roadrunners are looking to advance to the Southern California Regional Pairs Championships on May 5-6 at El Camino College.
