Falcons topple Lassen in straight sets to open '22 season

The FLC women's volleyball team got their 2022 season underway on Friday afternoon with a dominant performance, defeating visiting Lassen College in straight sets, 25-17, 25-12, 25-15. The Falcons took a little while to find their rhythm in the first set, but gradually pulled away from the Cougars once they shook off the opening-match jitters. The Falcons looked confident and dominated the second set with a mix of sophomore experience and freshmen athleticism contributing in equal parts. Coach Hanrahan shuffled her lineup for the third set thereby getting some playing time for nearly her entire bench while they still won by double digits. Sophomore Mikayla Ide had a solid all-around game with five kills, 10 digs, and three service aces. Setter Kendall Hughes directed the offense with 21 assists to go with a game-high 17 digs and three kills. Freshman Lexi Berry led the team with six kills and added two blocks while playing just two sets, and fellow freshman Mackenzie Natusch had five kills and two blocks. The Falcons will travel to Fairfield on Wednesday to take on Sequoias at 5:00 pm and Solano at 7:00 pm, then return home for Friday's Folsom Lake Classic against Hartnell (1:00 pm) and Butte (5:00 pm).
