Gauchos win second straight

Gauchos win second straight

The Saddleback men's tennis team improved to 2-1 with a 5-4 win at Grossmont College on Thursday in El Cajon.  Thomas Henrick pulled out the final match at No. 6 singles for the win.

Saddleback entered the season with a very young lineup and took some lumps in the opening match of the season before finding their footing.  The Gauchos now stand at 2-1 on the season after a thrilling 5-4 win over Grossmont on Thursday.

Saddleback opened by winning 2-of-3 doubles matches as Oliver Svensson and Thomas Henrick teamed to defeat Brett Nguyen and Coltrane Petersen, 8-1, at No. 3 to complete the doubles portion of the team match.

Saddleback then split six matches with the Griffins in singles play, with both Svensson and Henrick winning for a second time.  Svensson defeated Nicolas Coppo 6-1, 6-0 before Henrick followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Coltrane Petersen at No. 6 singles.

Svensson is off to a quick start to the season as he now stands at 3-0 in singles play for the year.

Saddleback will play again when they travel to Ventura College next Tuesday before returning home to play San Diego Mesa College on Thursday.  Both matches are scheduled to start at 2:00 PM.
