The Renegades onto the Super Regionals after Tough game 2 Victory

FREMONT- Despite having a huge win on Game 1, the Renegades knew that Game 2 was going to be a completely different challenge. More specifically – a harder one.

On the mound, a guy who threw 111 K's throughout the season, Sequoias' RHP Arthur Joven.

"We knew he was going to be good and hard to hit," said Ohlone's coach Michael Curran. "He pounds his fastball pretty good. Just when you thought you got on top of it (fastball), he starts throwing you off-speed. Overall, he does two things very well, he has good velocity and spots his fastball," added Curran.

Relentless of how hard the challenge would be, Curran had a strategy – looking to be on top of high fastballs and getting deep in the count.

"Our philosophy was to make sure that when we saw an elevated fastball – we were on it," mentioned Curran after the game. "Also, we were looking to get deep on the pitch count, we knew that if we made them use their bullpen we would have a better shot."

The strategy seemed to work as the Renegades took the game after a late two-run rally in the 7th inning. 3B Danny Vanhille started the big inning hitting a lead-off double which was capitalized later on thanks to well-executed squeeze-play by C Cody Nisbet. Later on, the inning, SS Miguel Cazares scored after a single by 2B Ryan Walstad.

On the other side of the coin, Ohlone SP Brian Martinez kept the Sequoias under control as he threw four shutout innings, allowing one run after a HR by Sequoias RF Christopher Gonzalez.

Ohlone's reliever Andrew Amato took the victory as he came to aid Martinez on the 6th. Amato threw three scoreless innings allowing no hit and getting three strikeouts.

After the victory, Ohlone is up and ready for whomever the next challenge is. "Whomever it's were going to come again and do our best," said Curran.

The Renegades would face #5 seeded. Feather River College next weekend.
