Wolverines Successful in Return to Action

After a year and a half of uncertainty, the San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team wanted to provide a little bit of certainty in its return to action.

The Wolverines scored twice in the first half, then added another early in the second half to beat Cuyamaca College 3-0 Aug. 27 inside SBVC Stadium.

Blake Dismang (Redlands East Valley) had a goal and two assists for the Wolverines in his debut in the blue and black, while Jose Solis (Redlands) added a goal and assist for the Wolverines.

Dismang set up the opening goal in the eighth minute, taking a pass up the the left wing and down near the corner. He sent a diagonal crossing pass to the top of the penalty box, where Ebrima Njie (Moreno Valley Valley View) was waiting for a one-timer, and a quick 1-0 lead.

Dismang doubled the lead heading into the half. In the 43rd minute, he got a pass from Jose Solis on the run up the middle of the field. He settled the ball and fired the ball past Cuyamaca goalkeeper Saul Hernandez for the 2-0 lead at the break.

The Wolverines came out firing to start the second 45 minutes. Dismang started the action in the 47th minute, firing a shot that Hernandez saved, but the ball fell to Solis, who tucked it home for the 3-0 lead.

From there, it was SBVC's defense took charge. The Wolverines limited Cuyamaca to seven shot attempts - only one was on goal - in the game. Starter Brian Orozco (Grand Terrace) made the only save for the Wolverines. Hernandez made four saves for Cuyamaca.
