WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: THE L.A. VALLEY TOURNAMENT

Fullerton took one out of three games at the L.A. Valley College Tournament over the weekend.

On Friday, the Hornets opened up with the No. 1 team in the state, Ventura College, and lost to the undefeated Pirates 68-48. FC kept pace with Ventura in the first quarter as they were only down by three (16-13) by the quarter's end. The second quarter was all Ventura as they went on a 13-4 run. By halftime, VC owned a 29-17 lead and did give FC a chance to get back in the game. Fullerton was out-rebounded by Ventura 64-35. Katie Salas was the leading scorer for FC with 16 points. Moriah Serrano put up 13 points and Shenise West scored 6.

Saturday was a close game against Long Beach City College that did not fall in Fullerton's favor as they were edged by Vikings 60-59. The two teams were neck and neck throughout the contest, but LBCC took a 4-point lead with 20-seconds left to seal the victory. The Vikings out-rebounded Fullerton 62-43. Sydney Nekola came off the bench to lead the Hornets in scoring with 17 points. Moriah Serrano scored 8 points, while three players (Angela Zendejas, Hannah Jones, and Shenise West) dropped in 7 points each.

The third and final game on Sunday featured two Orange Empire Conference teams in Fullerton and Saddleback. The Hornets secured a 70-45 win over the Gauchos. Fullerton took a 4-2 lead early in the first quarter on a jumper by Shenise West. By the 6-minute mark, the Hornets expanded the lead to 11-2 and never looked back. Shenise West played her best game of the season putting up a game-high 26 points. She also locked down a double-double with 15 rebounds and added 6 blocks. Moriah Serrano and Angela Zendejas both contributed 9 points, while Hannah Jones put up 8.
