Baseball Team Earns Amazing Comeback Win

With their backs against the wall twice, the FLC baseball team somehow clawed their way back and won in dramatic fashion Thursday night as they defeated the Los Medanos Mustangs, 6-4 at Falcon Field.  Trailing 3-1 in the 8th inning, the Falcons managed to send the game into extra innings with single runs in both the 8th and 9th innings.  Building on that momentum, the Falcons appeared poised to end the game when they loaded the bases with one out in the 10th.  Unfortunately, the inning ended with two strikeouts and no runs scored.  Nearly the same scenario happened in the 12th, when the Falcons put runners on 1st and 3rd with one out.  This time a strikeout and a groundout ended the threat.  When Los Medanos took a 4-3 lead in the top half of the 14th on a walk, a sacrifice bunt, and a soft single, things looked bleak for the home team.  Down to their last out withTyler Kaim on first by virtue of a walk, Nick Schumacher kept the Falcons' faint hopes alive when he drew a walk.  That brought up third baseman Mychal Lee, who had entered the game in the 7th inning and scored the tying run in the 9th when pinch hitter Blake Rivera doubled him home.  Lee turned on the third pitch he saw and sent it over left field fence, thereby touching off a wild celebration of Falcons at home plate.

In addition to Lee, the unsung heroes of this game were pitchers Andrew Schantz (5 innings, 0 earned runs), Craig Stafford (3 innings, 1 run), Matt Huddleston (1 inning, 0 runs), and Zach Reid (5 innings, 1 run), who kept the Mustangs in check most of the night.

The win improves the Falcons' record to 2-0 in the BVC and 10-4 overall.
