SBCC committed four errors leading to four unearned runs in the last four innings on Wednesday and Santiago Canyon took advantage to pull out a 5-3 non-conference softball win at Pershing Park.

The Hawks (4-4) won their third game in two days while the Vaqueros fell to 0-6.

Mystique Rocha tossed a five-hitter for the Hawks, allowing three runs (two earned) with eight strikeouts and no walks.

SBCC's Paige Powell pitched a complete game as well, giving up five runs (one earned) on eight hits with no strikeouts and two walks. Powell drove in the Vaqueros' first run in the first when she followed Taylor Tibbels' double down the left-field line with a booming double to left-center.

The Vaqueros made it 2-0 in the second when Madison Foster singled, stole second and third and scored when the catcher's throw to third glanced off the third baseman's glove. The Hawks got a run in the third on Isabelle Valdez's RBI fielder's choice, then added three unearned runs in the fourth to grab a 4-2 lead.

Shortstop Emily LoneTree made a spectacular diving grab for the second out in the fourth and handled a routine grounder by throwing to first for the imminent third out. But Hannah Weaver dropped the ball at first and SCC had runners at first and second. Noelle Fisher scored on two wild pitches and Alyssa Enriquez delivered a two-out, two-RBI single through the left side to make it 4-2.

"They're a strong team and Paige pitched well," said Vaquero coach Justine Bosio. "It was kind of like yesterday (a 3-2 loss to L.A. Mission), you make one error in a situation where if we're clean on that play, the next batter never comes up and they don't score.

"The one thing we're really proud of this week is our pitchers' performances. We feel like they both (Carson Dunckley and Powell) made the shift from last week and threw two good games this week, which is awesome.

"We're making progress. We just have to be more mentally tough in the box and get it done."

The Vaqueros will travel to L.A. Valley on Tuesday for a 2:30 p.m. game.
