Santa Ana overpowers Mt. SAC in opening game of SoCal Regional, Game 2 on Saturday

(Walnut, CA) In the first of a best-of-three series, No. 9 Santa Ana (25-15) handed No. 8 Mt. SAC (22-18) a 15-5 setback at Art Mazmanian Field on Friday in the first round of the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regional playoffs.

Down 15-1, the Mounties rallied with four runs in the bottom of the ninth but could not get closer.

Top batters for Mt. SAC included Alex Gonzalez (2-for-2, R), Kyle Koontz (2-for-5, 2 RBI), Caleb Eills (1-for-3, RBI, 2 R), Mason Campbell (1-for-1, R, 2B), and Christian Heflin (1-for-2).

Seven pitchers took the mound for the Mounties, but starter Noah Woodall (4-1) got the loss, surrendering five runs in two innings while striking out two.

Mt. SAC hosts Game 2 of the series on Saturday, May 4, at 1 p.m. If necessary, a decisive Game 3 will get underway 30 minutes after first game.
