Reedley Sweeps Cerro Coso

Reedley College's baseball Tigers take a five-game winning streak into a three-game series with Central Valley Conference leader College of the Sequoias Giants this week.

The series begins in Visalia on Tuesday, April 9 before a 2 pm game in Reedley on Thursday and a 1 pm contest in Visalia on Saturday.

During Easter break, Reedley hosts Bakersfield on Tuesday, April 16 before going to Bakersfield the next day.

A three-game series with Cerro Coso Community College began with a wild 13-11 Tiger victory in Ridgecrest on April 2 before Reedley rolled to an 18-4 Friday victory at home and a 9-5 win on Saturday.

In the first game win, Reedley used a six-run fifth inning rally to come back from a 4-0 first inning deficit. Catcher Danny Gamez hit a grand slam homer in the third after recording an RBI single in the second. Designated hitter, Mitchell Silvas led a 12-hit attack with three singles while Josh Mares added a triple.

Harrison Moy allowed two runs on four hits in six innings of relief work to get the pitching victory.

Second baseman Deagan Risnes played just six innings on Friday night but hit for the cycle while driving in eight runs. Risnes capped a seven-run first inning rally with a three-run triple after getting a single to leadoff the game. He hit a two-run homer in the fifth before clearing the bases with a triple to the right-center field gap in the sixth.

Silvas recorded four singles and a double in five at-bats, driving in three runs. Gabe Grijalva added three hits and three RBI.

Peyton McNair got the win, allowing three hits and striking out 10 in seven shutout innings.

On Saturday, Reedley used a five-run third inning rally to record a 9-5 victory. Hans Brown and Gamez each drove in two runs.

Reedley is now 8-7 in CVC action (good for fifth place in the eight-team conference) and 11-19 overall.
