COD Women’s Soccer begins new chapter and new season by shooting down the Jets, 9-0

COD (1-0) opened up the 2022 season on the road as they started the year with a new head coach for the first time since 2015, throttling the San Diego Miramar Jets (0-1), 9-0.

Sophomore starting goal keeper Jessica Uribe (Indio Shadow Hills) and freshman goal keeper Stephanie Pina (Indio H.S.) combined for the first clean sheet of the season, each player splitting keeper duties at the half. Sophomore defender Narali Lopez (Cathedral City H.S.) snagged a hat trick on six shots, scoring once in the first half and twice in the second.

Freshman starting midfielder Montserrath Salazar (Indio H.S.) got the scoring going 33 seconds into the game, the first of two goals for her on the day, both scored in the first half. Freshman starting forward Dalaina Johnson (Cathedral City H.S.) had a pair of goals for her first game as a Roadrunner, scoring in the first half and then burying a penalty kick in the second half. Sophomore starting defender Zaynah Cortez (Palm Springs H.S.) assisted on two goals and sophomore starting midfielder Monserrath Bedolla Guzman (Thermal Coachella Valley) also grabbed two assists in the win.
