Long Beach Narrows out El Camino in the Final Quarter 64-61

The No. 7/13 Long Beach City College Vikings edged out the El Camino College Warriors 64-61 in a tight conference showdown on Wednesday evening in the Hall of Champions. With the win, the Vikings go to 2305 overall and are 1-0 in the South Coast Conference.

The were down the entire first half of the game. Then after halftime, the Vikings started to outscore the Warriors 23-12 in the third quarter and 18-15 in the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter with two minutes left in the game, freshman wing Aaliyah Carter cleared an offensive rebound and tipped in the basket to take the one-point lead over El Camino 62-61. Carter then fouled out, therefore leaving the Vikings down to four players and the Warriors missed their free throws with less than a minute in the game.

With 14 seconds left, the Warriors fumbled the ball and turned it over, and then fouled sophomore guard Jaseemah Martinez, who then hit both free throws to extend the lead and take the conference win 64-61.

Carter led the team with 21 points and nine rebounds. Martinez was close behind with 17 points and six rebounds and four assists.

The Vikings will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 21 at LA Southwest at 7p.m.
