Women's basketball team has no problem at Golden West

After playing two straight games that went down to the wire, the Irvine Valley women's basketball team had an easy time on Friday night.

The Lasers ran away from Golden West from the start and cruised to a 89-41 Orange Empire Conference victory on the road.

IVC, ranked No. 6 in the state, was coming off a 77-63 overtime triumph at Cypress last Friday and then a 75-71 win at Fullerton on Wednesday.

Those two wins along with the lop-sided victory over Golden West Friday improved IVC's record to 19-2 overall and 7-0 in conference.

Irvine Valley led, 32-10, after the first quarter and 49-18 at the half. The team shot 50 percent (11 of 22) from the field in the opening quarter. Sophomore guard Emma Vasquez came off the bench with seven big points.

The Lasers led by as many as 51 points in the fourth quarter before winning by 48.

The out-scored Golden West 44-14 in the paint and scored 42 points off of 36 Rustler turnovers.

All 13 Laser players scored in the contest.

Sophomore forward Zoe Stachowski led with 20 points and 11 rebounds in just 23 minutes of work.

Sophomore guard Anai Washington chipped in 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and five steals, freshman guard Morgan Higgins added 12 points, four rebounds, eight assists and six steals and freshmen guards Danielle Silva and Samantha Uehara each finished with eight points.

Irvine Valley is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Saddleback at 5 p.m.
