After a long night of rain, the GC women's beach volleyball team stepped onto the beach courts at the Chula Vista Elite Training Center Thursday, May 9 for their last day of team competition this spring. Their first match at Team State Championships was El Camino College beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Grossmont defeated El Camino earlier in the spring 4-1, but Thursday morning found the Warriors really giving the Griffins a tough match.
Grossmont's 3 and 4 pairs lost their first sets against El Camino, followed by additional losses in each tie-break set. Fortunately though the Griffins' 2 and 5 pairs had already secured two wins to lead the Griffins 2-0 through the 1s pair winning tie-break game. The 1s led the tie-break until its completion, winning the set 15-10 and the match 3-2.
The second match for the Griffins Thursday, May 9 was against Gavilan College. It began just after 1:00 p.m.
Gavilan College finished spring season 13-7, but the Griffins added another loss to the Rams record.
Grossmont's 1 and 2 pairs finished their sets easily, each with a win against Gavilan. GC's 4 and 5 pairs finished in similar fashion, and the 3s did their job. Grossmont defeats Gavilan 5-0.
