(Sacramento, CA) Coming off of a very successful 2021 season, the Mt. SAC Women's Soccer team started 2022 with a dominating, 4-0, road win over American River College this past Saturday (August 27).

The Mounties, who advanced to the last season's CCCAA State Semifinals, were led by sophomore midfielder Kaylee Gutierrez with a goal and an assist.

Leading the way in the net was sophomore goalie Leila Peregrina with the shutout, who was in the net for all or parts of 13 shutouts in the 2021 season for the Mounties.

Peregrina faced only two shots on goal as the defense stepped up in the opening game for the Mounties.

The Mounties led after the first half, 1-0, with freshman midfielder Alina Valdez's first college score at the 35-minute mark on an assist from Gutierrez.

Early in the second half in the 50th minute, last year's goal-scoring leader, Karissa Vela (8G), gave the Mounties a 2-0 lead. Fatima Arnold assisted on the goal.

Two late goals in the second half in the 75th minute by Natalia Reyes (Veronica Aquino) and in the 82nd minute by Gutierrez (unassisted), put the game away for the Mounties (1-0).

Mt. SAC will host Fullerton on Tuesday (August 30) at 6:00 pm. for its first home game.
