Cats show depth in OEC opener

Cats show depth in OEC opener

The Saddleback women's tennis team remained undefeated with a 5-4 win over Cypress College on Tuesday at the Saddleback Tennis Complex.  The Bobcats battled cold and windy conditions while holding off the Chargers.

Saddleback received a tough test in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) opener as Cypress battled the Bobcats in cold and windy conditions.  In the end, the Bobcats had too much depth in improving to 5-0 on the season.

Saddleback won 2-of-3 doubles matches in taking a lead into singles play.  The Bobcats lost a pair of close tiebreakers at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, thus forcing the rest of the lineup to buckle down and hold off a Cypress team looking for an upset.  Saddleback was nearly flawless on the back end of the lineup, winning all three matches in straight sets.

Dorothea Amadin was the first to win, beating her opponent at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0 to put Saddleback within two points of a team win.  Emily West then made quick work of her opponent with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.  Brooke Buser put the team match away at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win.    West and Buser (pictured) were both two-time winners on the day, winning in both doubles and singles matches.

Saddleback is now 5-0 for the season after the win.  The Bobcats will have a week off before hosting Riverside City College in OEC play next Thursday.  Match time is scheduled for 2:00 PM.

The last time Saddleback started 5-0 was in 2010 when the team went 18-0 and won the state championship.
