Bulldogs Fall in Season Opener Versus Bakersfield

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College men's soccer program suffered a 2-0 loss to Bakersfield in the season opener at home on Friday afternoon. 

Bakersfield broke the scoring drought after netting a penalty kick in the 48th minute of play. The Renegades doubled their lead just minutes later after converting a long pass that led to the volley in the box. Bakersfield held a 5-3 advantage in the corner kicks column and outshot AHC by a slim 15-11 margin. 

Juan Montelongo led the offensive attack for Hancock with two shots on frame. Jose Espinoza, Jesus Hinojosa, and Eli Zuniga also chipped in with one shot on goal apiece. Matt Martinelli suffered the loss in the box but recorded seven saves during his 90-minute showing.

The Bulldogs are set to return to action on Saturday, March 13, with a return trip to Bakersfield. Game time is set for 3:30 PM in Bakersfield, Calif. Spectators will not be permitted at the event, but fans can watch the contest online by clicking here.
