Falcons find a way, defeat Delta on walkoff walk

The Folsom Lake Falcons keep finding ways to win baseball games.  On Friday afternoon at FLC, the Falcons - after trailing 3-1 in the seventh inning - won their best-of-three series opener with a walkoff walk in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat Big 8 rival Delta, 5-4.  The Falcons, in fact, scored their winning run without the benefit of a single hit in the ninth inning.  A leadoff hit batter, a walk, then an intentional walk loaded the bases for Drake Digiorno, who got the game-winning RBI when he also drew a walk.  The Falcons had taken a 4-3 lead in the eighth on catcher Jacob Elias' two-run homer, but closer Cole Tremain relinquished the lead when he allowed a ninth inning leadoff solo homer to tie the game.

Falcon starter Sky Wells, the state leader in wins with 11, was in command through six innings with just one earned run on three hits and one walk.  But things unraveled for him in the seventh as he gave up two hits and two walks without getting an out before the bullpen came to his rescue.  Will Jacobson got the next three batters in order to limit the damage, then also pitched a perfect eighth to give the Falcons a chance to come back.  Jared Breedwell's seventh inning RBI double got the Falcons within one run before Elias' heroics in the eighth put them ahead.

The falcons have two chances to secure the series and advance to the State Championship with Saturday's game scheduled for 1:00 pm (the Falcons will be the designated 'visiting team' for the second game).  If necessary, the series finale will be played on Sunday at 12 noon.
