Pirates settle for scoreless stalemate

COSTA MESA -- After 90 minutes of play, a winner couldn't be decided and Tuesday's men's soccer nonconference matchup between East Los Angeles and Orange Coast ended in a scoreless tie.

Both goalkeepers kept their teams level with OCC's Luke Fyvie coming up with eight saves and ELAC's Michael Juan earning five saves.

Coast (1-0-1) had more than enough opportunities to find the back of the net with 17 shot attempts, but the ball was either shot wide of the goal, or was stopped by Juan.

After a back-and-forth opening 45 minutes, the Pirates earned most of the play and the opportunities in the second half before the Huskies found some success in the final 10 minutes of play.

OCC's defense played well throughout the match and was led by the backline corps of Tony Tobon, Jesus Velasquez, Padric Pigeon and Miguel Dina

The Pirates will return to action on Thursday at San Diego City College, beginning at 3 p.m. OCC's next home match will take place on Tuesday against MiraCosta, beginning at 4 p.m.
