Mounties win Nike/Azteca Soccer Tournament with win over Norco, 6-0

(Walnut, CA) It was a perfect weekend for the Mt. SAC Women's Soccer team with two wins, two shutouts and a championship.

The Mounties, who improved to 3-1 on the season, won the Inaugural Mt. SAC Women's Nike/Azteca Soccer Tournament with a 6-0 win over visiting Norco Sunday (Sept. 5).

Freshmen Angeles Jacobo and Emily Hernandez (1 Assist) each scored two goals to lead the Mounties. The goals were the first of the season for each player.

Adding single goals was the team scoring leader Kaylee Gutierrez and Karissa Vela, with her first of the season.

Julia Luceo led with three assists in the game for the Mounties.

Nine different players have now scored for the Mounties in the first four games.

Freshman goalie Leila Peregrina, notched her third win of the season, all shutouts.

The Mounties took a lone goal lead at the half, as Jacobo scored at the 15-minute mark, assisted by Luceo.

With 20 minutes left in the game, the flood gates opened for the Mounties as they scored five goals.

Jacobo and Hernandez scored three goals in a three-minute span to put the game away.

Jacobo, assisted by Luceo, gave Mt. SAC a 2-0 lead in the 72nd minute, and Hernandez scored twice in the 72nd (Assist by Fatima Esparza) and 75th minutes (Luceo).

Gutierrez and Vela scored in the 85th and 88th minutes, respectively.

Goalie Yadira Fernandez also got some time between the pipes for the Mounties to preserve the shutout.

Mt. SAC will travel to play San Diego Mesa Friday (Sept. 10).
