Faaiu, Rams earn first victories to open season at Napa Valley

NAPA – New City College of San Francisco women's volleyball head coach Sifa Faaiu is 2-0 to begin her career after the Rams defeated both its opponents on opening day at Napa Valley College on Friday.

CCSF began 2022 with a 3-1 (25-12, 17-25, 25-19, 25-14) victory over West Hills College Lemoore and closed out the day with a convincing 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-10) sweep of host Napa Valley.

Freshman Anivaolegai-Moors Tafilele had a huge Rams debut as she totaled 29 kills and 60 digs over the two matches. She led CCSF with 18 kills and totaled 25 digs in the win over West Hills Lemoore and followed that with 11 kills and a team-high 35 digs against Napa Valley.

Highlights from the West Hills match included Jasmine Davis with 35 digs, Josie LesCallett with 35 assists, 11 kills, and four aces, Jennifer Mata'u with 28 assists, 15 digs, and 14 kills, as well as Vanessa Semien with 15 digs, 11 kills, and three aces.

CCSF hit an impressive .455 in the sweep of Napa Valley, totaling 45 kills while cleaning up with 131 digs. Mata'u led the way with 15 kills to go along with 28 digs and 25 assists.

Davis came up with 30 digs, Semien posted 18 digs and nine kills, while LesCallett totaled 20 assists, eight digs, and six kills.

CCSF (2-0) will look to keep the momentum going on Sep. 7 when the Rams host Skyline College in their home opener at 6:30 p.m. in a Coast Conference interdivision match.
