Warriors Fall in Both Games in First Day at Cesar Chavez Tournament

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors lost their first two games of the Cesar Chavez Tournament on Friday at Southwestern College.  

El Camino 12, Southwestern 15

The Warriors had to play from behind in the game against Southwestern as they trailed 9-5 at the half.  The Warriors outscored the Jaguars 7-to-6 in the final two frames but it wasn't enough to overcome the early Southwestern lead.

Zackary Johnson led the team with five goals and Matheus Trefilio had four goals.  Tyler Reed, Aidan Gutierrez, and Bronson Garel each chipped in one goal.  Garel and Gutierrez each had two assists in the game.  Gary Bellingham made 10 saves and had two steals in the game.

El Camino 9, Grossmont 14

The Warriors once again had to play from behind in the second game of the day against Grossmont.

Grossmont jumped to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter.  They led 6-3 at the half and jumped to a big 12-5 lead after three quarters.  The Warriors outscored Grossmont 4-2 in the final quarter but it wasn't enough to overcome the comfortable Grossmont lead.

Blake Klade and Tyler Reed led the Warriors with two goals a piece.  Reed also had two assists in the game.  Broson Garel led the defense with five steals and Gary Bellingham made 10 saves in goal.
