The West Valley softball team treated a large home-opening crowd to a combined 22 hits and 18 runs in racking up 7-1 and 11-0 wins over visiting Solano Tuesday afternoon. The Vikings improved to 4-2 as they prepare for a visit from 2022 state runner-up Sierra Thursday.

The Vikings put game one away early, as they scored three runs in the bottom of the first, two on a two-run double from Sydney Heming just inside the third base line. After adding one run in the third, WVC struck for three more in the fifth on RBI doubles from Emma Courtney and Marissa Delgadillo and an RBI one-bagger from Heming. The Vikings outhit the Falcons (0-4) 14-4, as starter Miranda Torres scattered a quartet of singles in six innings pitched to get the win in the circle.

Heming was 3-3 with three RBI, while Larissa Higgins stayed hot with a 2-3 outing. Chloe Wright joined the multi-hit club by finishing 2-2. Courtney, Delgadillo, Heming amd Kaylee Ramirez all hammered doubles.

It was much the same in game two, with WVC scoring three times in the first and four times in the second. WVC took advantage of three walks, a hit batter and a Higgins RBI single in the first. The big blast in the second was a two-run double from Isabella Gallegos. The Vikings got all the runs they would need for the five-inning win when they scored three in the fourth thanks to an RBI single from Bella Sweet and a two-run single from Paris Uribe.

Sweet finished 2-2 with four runs scored, Higgins was 2-2 with two runs scored and Uribe went 2-4 with three RBI. Starter Rhiannon Underhill and reliever Shelby White split time in the circle, with White earning the win with four K's in three innings of work. Underhill, like White, gave up only a pair of singles, and struck out three Falcons in two innings.

The Vikings host Sierra (7-0) Thursday (2/9) in the resumption of the rained-out 2/4 contest in Rocklin. First pitch is 2:00pm.
