Pirates blank Ventura in opening round of SoCal Regionals

COSTA MESA -- It was another dominating performance by the Orange Coast College women's tennis team as the Pirates swept through visiting Ventura College, 5-0, in the opening round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs on Tuesday at the OCC Tennis Complex.

Needing just to reach five wins on the afternoon out of nine singles and doubles matches, the Pirates jumped ahead and grabbed control of things in the three doubles matches, going a perfect 3-for-3. The teams of Logan Koitka/Madeleine Veltri (8-5), Sedona Smith/Olivia Sipiora (8-1) and Camila Nelson/Leanne Pascua (8-3) took care of their business and pushed Coast ahead for good.

In singles, Smith (6-0, 6-1), Veltri (6-0, 6-1) and Pascua (6-0, 6-0) were able to finish victorious for the Pirates, although only two wins were necessary.

With the win, the top-seeded and undefeated Pirates (19-0) will advance to the regional semifinals, where they will host the winner of today's matchup between No. 4 L.A. Mission and No. 8 Grossmont. That semifinal will take place on Tuesday, April 8 at 2 p.m. at OCC.
