WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: HOLDING OFF THAT TIGER

The FC women's basketball team headed east down the 91 Freeway on Friday to take on Riverside City College, and made the trip worthwhile as they knocked off the Tigers 69-60 in an Orange Empire Conference contest.

The win was a big test for the Hornets, who bumped their record up to 12-6 overall. They remain unbeaten in the Orange Empire Conference at 4-0. The Riverside defeat gives the team an overall record of 10-7 with an OEC record of 2-2.

Fullerton's Moriah Serrano opened up the game with a three-pointer. It may have been a sign of good things to come.

Riverside answered back at the 5-minute mark with a jump shot by Rebecca London to put the Tigers up 8-5. That would be the only time that RCC would have the lead as the Hornets wrapped up the first quarter with a 13-10 advantage.

FC took control in the second quarter going on a 10-4 run. Up 23-14 at 6 minutes, Fullerton kept its distance ending the first half on a jumper by Serrano putting the team up 36-26.

Strong defense (19 forced turnovers) helped the Hornets average a 10-point lead throughout the game to earn the win against a solid Tiger team.

Moriah Serrano had a fine outing with a game-high 22 points with 4 rebounds. She was 5 out of 10 from beyond the arc. Hannah Jones stepped her game up with 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. Angela Zendejas had 8 points with 6 rebounds, while Shenise West had 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots. Sydney Nekola and Janelle Ramos both dropped in 5 points to help out with the victory.

Up Next: Fullerton (12-6 overall, 4-0 conference) comes home for their next game on Wednesday, January 22nd against district rival Cypress College. Tip off is at 6:00 pm.
