To the runner-up go the spoils.

The Solano College women’s soccer team has had a season to remember this year, and they were rewarded with six all-Bay Valley Conference first-team selections when coaches around the league convened earlier this week.

The Falcons just missed out on a first place finish this year in the BVC, going 10-1-1 to place second behind Mendocino, which went 10-0-2 to capture the league title. With the runner-up finish, Solano made it into the postseason and was given a No. 16 seed for the Northern California State Playoffs. The Falcons will be on the road to play No. 1 seeded Diablo Valley College (14-1-6) at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Many of Solano’s standout players this season are from local high schools in the area.

Juliet Ramirez, Kaitlyn Herrera, Annalissa Pena, Cindy Rodriguez, Lauryn Williams and Makayla Marwick made the first-team for Solano.

Freshman Marina Wika and Eli Lopez were second-team picks.

Ramirez, who played her high school ball at Rodriguez, won the Midfielder of the Year award after netting 14 goals to go with 17 assists, which were second-most in the state this year.

Herrera, a former Will C. Wood star, was sensational in her freshman year with Solano. She was selected for the Forward of the Year award. Herrera scored a team-high 30 goals this year to go with nine assists and 69 total points. The 30 goals and 69 points were good for third in the state. She also set the school record for goals in a season this year.

Pena, a sophomore from Rodriguez, was also on the first team for the midfield. She had 14 goals and 14 assists. Cindy Rodriguez, a sophomore from Armijo, was a first-team midfielder.

Williams, a sophomore out of Armijo, made the first-team as a defender and Makayla Marwick, a freshman from Jesse Bethel, was made the first-team as a goalkeeper. She had a 0.89 goals against average this year.

Defender Marina Wika (Washington) and midfielder Eli Lopez (Benicia) made the second-team for the Falcons. Both players are freshmen.
