Early Push Helps Wolverines Down Barstow

Destiny Alexander and Julianna Sanchez were a potent one-two punch for the San Bernardino Valley College women's basketball team Wednesday night, as the Wolverines beat Barstow 85-53 in SBVC's final regular season home game.

Alexander, the team's only sophomore, was recognized for her work this season before the game, then she came out and lived up to the pre-game praise. She played all 40 minutes, scoring a game-high 27 points and adding 16 rebounds. Meanwhile, Sanchez also played the entire game, posting 26 points, seven assists and five steals in the victory.

After a somewhat slow opening five minutes, the Wolverines picked up the pace late in the first quarter, outscoring the Vikings 23-10 in the opening 10 minutes, and went into halftime leading 33-21. After the intermission, SBVC came out firing again in the third. Alexander poured in nine of her 27 points in the period, while Trinity Harper added eight points in the quarter, as the Wolverines outscored the Vikings 29-13 to talke a 62-34 lead after three.

Harper ended the game with 11 points, while center DeAnne Pinota added 16, as the Wolverines' starting five accounted for all but two of the team's points in the game.
