Men's Basketball defeats SD City College to remain in 1st place in PCAC!

Chula Vista, CA – Friday January 31st, 2020 our 8th ranked Southwestern College Jags hosted the #11 ranked San Diego City College knights.  This game was a huge game for both teams depending on the outcome.  The Jags were 10-0 in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference while the Knights were right behind them at 9-1.  This game would either secure the Jags position, as PCAC Champions or the Knights would split the conference champs title with us.

The night started with a moment of silence for the 9 victims who lost their lives in the tragic helicopter crash Sunday January 26th, 2020, including Kobe and Gigi Bryant.

Tip-off was at 7pm.  The energy was already electric in the gym.  There were many spectators who were there to support each team!  Our Jaguar fans were dressed out in all black to support our Blackout game! Edwards was the first to put us on the scoreboard.  With the high intensity of the game, there was a lot of back and fourth scoring.  The score stayed pretty close or within four-point difference.  With less then ten minutes to go in the first half, the Knights took the lead 28-16.  The Jaguars' defense held them at 28 points for four minute while increasing their own score to narrow the gap.  With 2:13 left in the first half, Zach Reiter made a 3-pt jump shot to secure the lead for the first time in the game.  The Jags went into half time leading 39-33.

The second half was just as intense.  The Jaguars held the lead and never looked back.  Our defense was superb.  There was less then ten minutes to go and the Jags had a 15-point lead!  The Knights fought back and narrowed the gap, but it wasn't enough to take the game.  The Jags won it 86-79 and secured their first place position in the PCAC.

Key scorers include Marq Stephens with 20 points, 10 assists and 7 steals.  Diego Edwards had 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks.  DJ Jackson added 12  points and Zach Reiter added another 10 points.  The Jaguars move to 19-4 on the season and remain undefeated in conference play; 11-0!

The Jaguars will be back in action in the den on Friday Feb. 7th for a 7pm tip-off against the Palomar College Comets! Come out and support our program!
