The Irvine Valley women's soccer team ran into a tough Orange Coast squad in its Orange Empire Conference home-opening match Friday afternoon.

The Pirates were ranked No. 4 in the state in the first CCCSIA poll that came out earlier this week.

Irvine Valley players worked hard and received excellent play in goal by freshman Andrea Gonzales, but the Lasers fell, 4-0.

Orange Coast put two goals in the board in each half in the win to improve its record to 8-1-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference.

Lily Carroll and Sydney Powell each had two goals apiece for OCC.

Irvine Valley's Gonzales finished with seven saves in goal, including taking two goals away from the Pirates in the first half with leaping stops to tip the ball over the goal.

The Lasers will be back in action next Tuesday, traveling to Cypress for a 2 p.m. conference match. The Chargers were ranked No. 1 in the state this week.
