HORNETS BATTLE BUT FALL SHORT TO GWC

The Hornets battled it out with OEC rival Golden West College at home Wednesday night losing to the Rustlers in a tight match 3-2.

It was a dogfight between the only two teams in the Orange Empire Conference without a conference win as both the Hornets and the Rustlers came into the match 0-3.

Golden West jumped out to a 11-9 lead before FC flipped the script taking an 18-14 advantage eventually winning the first set 25-20.

Fullerton fell behind in the second set 14-9 and could not recover falling 25-17.

The third set was all GWC as the Hornets could only muster up 13 points as the momentum had swung in the Rustler's favor.

Fullerton competed hard in the fourth set grabbing a 7-3 lead to start it off. FC then pushed its lead to 18-11 on a nice combo-block by Marcus Blewett and Denim Young before winning it 25-13.

In the fifth and final set, the Hornets jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but Golden West swung the game back in its direction taking a 9-7 edge. Denim Young's kill tied the game up at 11, but the Rustlers took off on a 4-1 run finishing off the set and match with a 15-12 win.

Up Next: The Hornets (4-11 overall, 0-4 OEC) will get back at it again tomorrow (March 30th) when they travel to Santiago Cany on College. Match-time is at 6:00 pm.
