No. 5-ranked Citrus College shook off a rocky start to grab a 67-65 victory over College of the Sequoias in the CCCAA State Championship Quarterfinals Thursday night.

The Owls improve to 28-3 overall and advance to the semifinals, while the Giants end their season at 27-4.

Anthony Tello led the Owls with 17 points, while Jayden Johnston added 13 points and Jamal Briscoe chipped in 10 points. Aibigho Ujadughele and Chris Chiles each grabbed seven boards for the Owls.

Citrus battled back from a 12-point hole and took a one-point lead with just under three minutes to play off a big-time three from Johnston.

The Giants fouled with 17 seconds to send Tello to the line, hoping he would miss, but Tello sank both to put pressure on Sequoias to hit a three to tie the game. Seconds ticked off the clock before Sequoias got a shot off, but the Giant's foot was on the three-point arc to only count for two points, 66-65.

With less than five seconds on the clock, Citrus got the inbound pass off but was fouled right away. Briscoe missed the first but sank the second to secure the 67-65 victory for Citrus.

The Owls face the City College of San Francisco in the semifinals, tipping off at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
