Owls Battle Pirates on the Road

Citrus College battled Orange Coast College Wednesday night, but ultimately fell in three sets (25-23, 25-13, 25-22).

The Owls drop to 0-2 on the season, while the Pirates improve to 3-0.

Faith Evaro led the Owls with 13 kills on a .382 hitting clip and had one ace. Delaney Tate followed with 12 kills and posted 20 digs for a double-double. Alexis Aguayo (14 digs), Desiree Reyes (13 digs), and Evelyn Enriquez (11 digs) each added double-digit digs, while Maritza Sanchez finished with 31 assists on the night.

Neither team could create much separation in the first until OCC pulled in front by two, 22-20, late in the frame. Citrus tried to sink its talons in but couldn't overcome the Pirates to drop the first set 25-23.

OCC carried the momentum into the second and took a six-point upper hand (10-4) early. Citrus couldn't keep pace and dropped the set 25-13.

The Owls jumped in front early in the third and looked like they might force another set with a 22-20 lead late into the set, but the Pirates took advantage of the visitors' errors to rattle off five consecutive points to seal the match.

Citrus makes its home debut on Friday, hosting Southwestern College at 5:00 p.m. in the Owls' Nest.
