Women's basketball team stays unbeaten with win at Rio Hondo

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team improved its record to 5-0 with its best win of the season so far on Friday night.

The Lasers, ranked No. 7 in the So. Cal. coaches preseason poll, defeated Rio Hondo, 88-66, on the road.

IVC was led by an all-around, great performance by sophomore guard Anai Washington.

The returning all-Orange Empire Conference player finished with 29 points on 8 of 11 shooting from the field and going 13 of 17 from the free throw line.

She added 13 rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Washington was one of three Laser players to finish in double figures.

Sophomore post player Zoe Stachowski added 17 points, 14 rebounds and two assists.

And freshman forward Kaitlyn Luu had 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists on the night.

Freshman guard Alara Ersu contributed six points and freshman guards Danielle Silva and Morgan Higgins each had five points for IVC.

Irvine Valley led, 44-39, at the half and then blew the game open in the second half, out-scoring Rio Hondo, 44-27, in the final 20 minutes.

IVC plays again on Wednesday at Citrus at 6 p.m.
