Beach Volleyball: Rio Hondo sweeps Victor Valley to earn split in Palm Desert

PALM DESERT – Rio Hondo College dominated Victor Valley College to earn its second victory of the season after sweeping the Rams 5-0 in the second of two South Coast Conference matches played at Civic Center Park in Palm Desert on Friday. The Roadrunners were able to bounce back after suffering a 4-1 loss to host College of the Desert earlier in the day.

Rio Hondo earned a forfeit win at No. 1 and got victories at No. 2 Ariel Garcia and Faith Wada (21-3, 21-2), No. 3 Denisse Sanchez and Haedee Estrella (21-3, 21-3), No. 4 Deidamia Challapa and Camila Rau (21-1, 21-0), and No. 5 Valarie Romero and Shannen Ferraren (21-3, 21-3).

The Roadrunners had a tougher time with COD. Sanchez and Estrella earned Rio Hondo's lone win at No. 3, taking the match 21-12, 21-18. Oronoz and Lee battled in a three-set match at No. 1 but ultimately fell 21-16, 18-21, 24-22.

The win over Victor Valley snapped a nine-match losing streak. Rio Hondo is now 2-10 overall and 1-2 in South Coast Conference play. The Roadrunners are back in action on Friday (Mar. 25) when they will face El Camino College and Moorpark College in Torrance.
