Irvine Valley's women's beach volleyball team hosted two national powers and another four-year school from around the corner in an all-day long even on Sunday at the IVC beach complex.
Irvine Valley lost to No. 14 Stanford, 5-0, and No. 17 Grand Canyon, but defeated Concordia, 4-1.
The Lasers opened the day facing Stanford. Irvine Valley was competitive in several sets on all courts, including seeing its top team of sophomore Renata Bath and freshman Lea Kruse challenge the Cardinal No. 1 duo of Charlie Ekstrom and Tori Ashkinos.
Bath and Kruse pushed Ekstrom and Ashkinos to three sets before losing, 21-10, 19-21, 15-12.
Against Grand Canyon later in the day, Bath and Kruse rallied for a three-set win over Grand Canyon's Katie Hess and Mikaela Raudsepp, 18-21, 21-18, 18-16.
In the final match of the day against NCAA Division II Concordia, Irvine Valley picked up wins on the first, second, third and fourth courts.
Bath and Kruse defeated Kya Bock and Kit McCarty, 21-17, 21-9.
IVC's No. 2 team of freshmen Gabriela Griego and Anna Unke dropped the first set, but came back to win, 20-22, 21-17, 15-9.
The Laser No. 3 team of sophomores Alyssa Vortouni and Emilie Austin came out on top, 23-21, 21-19.
And the No. 4 IVC duo of freshmen Alaina Gendale and Kendall Nolan won, 21-16, 21-17.
Irvine Valley's record went to 8-7 overall. The Lasers are 6-0 against community college opponents on the year.
They play again on Friday against Fullerton and Saddleback at IVC in Orange Empire Conference contests.
