Hawks end Santa Barbara's 4 game win streak behind Shirley and Butts

The Cosumnes River Hawks (3-5) end the 4 game win streak of Santa Barbara behind standout performances from sophmore Arionna Butts and freshman Chelsey Shirley. The Hawks were looking to close out the road tournament with a win at the Bristol Marketplace Classic. Cosumnes had fell in 2 close games and came out strong in a battle against a very good Santa Barbara team. 

 

The Hawks were led by freshman Chelsey Shirley, who had 26 points and 12 rebounds. Shirley shot 65% from the floor as she led the Hawks in the comeback late in the second half. Shirley was a menace on the boards both offensively and defensively. Sophmore Arionna Butts also helped the push for the Hawks as she poured in 16 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. Butts showed her composure throughout the game and made critical plays during the Hawks push late in the game. 

 

Cosumnes also was able to get it done on the defensive end as they foced Santa Barbara to commit 27 turnovers as well as coming up with 10 steals. The team was able to come up with stops in the last minutes of the game that set up the Hawks to gain a victory in the away tournament. The game was sealed with two clutch free throws by freshman point guard Briley Jordet, who finished the game with 6 points.
