Women's Soccer Sophomore Night Ends in a Draw

BAKERSFIELD, CA – The Bakersfield College women's soccer team opened up the evening celebrating their sophomores in their final home game of the season. A combative 94-minute game ended with a 0-0 draw against the LA Valley Monarchs (6-8-4,4-4-2).

The first half was quiet, as both teams held on defensively to end the half scoreless. The Monarch's found the net twice at the 15th minute and again at the 39th due to free kicks but were unable to seal the deal. Goalkeeper Aurora Fernandez had two saves from the first kick then again in the final minutes rescuing the `Gades from being down a point with a fast reacting save. In extra time, sophomore Lissette Garcia broke away and had a near miss with the LAVC goalkeeper coming up and stopping the ball outside of the goal line.

Bakersfield took their first shot of the night in the 50th minute but unfortunately did not find the back of the net. BC kept holding defensively as LAVC had only one shot on goal in the second half. The final 10 minutes of the game would end being very aggressive from both sides. At least 4 red cards and a yellow were given out. In the end two extra minutes of stoppage time were run off before the game ended scoreless.

With the tie, BC ends the night 4-11-3 overall and 3-6-3 in conference. The team will wrap up their regular season on the road taking on Santa Monica College first on Tuesday, November 12th and then head to Antelope Valley Friday, November 15th.
