MOVING UP TO ROUND 4

MOVING UP TO ROUND 4

No. 3 seeded Fullerton moves on after defeating No. 6 Long Beach City College at home on Tuesday afternoon 2-1.

The victory puts the Coach Greg Aviles' era of teams in new territory. The last and only time the Hornets made it this far in the SoCal Regionals was in 2003. That 2003 squad is the only team to make it to the State Tournament in the program's history that began in 1976.

In the 35th minute, FC forced a 1-0 lead pressing the box from a corner kick that gave Sergio Ibarra the opportunity to head the ball in from 15-yards out. Cesar Zamora is credited with the assist.

Fullerton went up 2-0 in the near the top of the second half thanks to a successful PK by Joseph Espinoza.

Long Beach knocked in a late goal from another PK, but FC managed to hold on for the win thanks to a nice last-second save by Hayden Frost.

Frost did a great job in the box for the Hornets with 5 saves and 1 goal against in 90 minutes.

Up Next: The No. 3 Hornets (15-4-4 overall) will travel up to Oxnard College (19-1-1 overall) this Saturday, November 26th for a shot at qualifying for the CCCAA State Championship Tournament. Match time against the Condors is at 2:00 pm.
