SHASTA SOFTBALL SPLITS IN OPENING WEEKEND

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College softball team split its opening weekend, losing to American River 16-0 in five innings in the season-opener before blasting Cabrillo 12-1 in Aptos over the weekend.

The Knights fell behind early with a five-run second inning from the Beavers. Shasta committed five errors and managed two hits in the game – both coming from center fielder Savannah Cruz, who was 2 for 2 in the game with a double. Whitney Carnes took the loss, allowing 11 earned runs, striking out four and walking two in four innings.

Shasta 12, Cabrillo 1
The Knights exploded for five runs in both the second and third inning to cruise to victory. Carnes struck out seven, walked two and allowed one run on four hits in five innings to earn the win. She was also 2 for 2 with an RBI and scored twice, Shelbe Capello was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and a run, Caitlin France was 2 for2 with a double, three RBIs and a run, and Autumn Campbell was 1 for 2 with a pair of RBIs. Riley Horton and Madeline Nightingale each scored twice.

Shasta (1-1) plays a doubleheader at Los Medanos on Saturday.
