COD Softball uses 12-run 4th inning to mercy the Arabs, 14-3

COD (3-1) played a close contest early with the visitors, then sent 16 players to the plate in the 4th inning to mercy the Imperial Valley Arabs (1-1), 14-3.

Imperial Valley got onto the scoreboard first with a pair of runs in the top of the first, then the Roadrunners responded in a big way as sophomore third baseman Lauren Robinson (La Quinta H.S.) clobbered a two run home run in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 2-2.

The Arabs would once again take the lead, scoring a run in the top of the third, but in the bottom of the fourth Desert started to roll and just would not be denied. When the dust settled and the damage had been done, the Roadrunners had plated 12 runs en route to a mercy victory over Imperial Valley. The victory sweetened by the fact that the week prior, Desert fell at the Arabs, 13-10 in a wild back-and-forth contest.

Freshman shortstop and leadoff hitter Davia Hines (Palm Springs H.S.) went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and a run batted in and sophomore catcher Natalie Avila (Rancho Mirage H.S.) went 2 for 3 with three runs scored and an RBI on the afternoon.

Freshman second baseman Dakota Hansen (Myrtle Beach, SC) scored twice out of the three hole in the lineup and Robinson went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and four RBI's.

Freshman left fielder Jessie Rios (La Quinta H.S.) wnet 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI and freshman pinch hitter Alejandra Ramirez (Rancho Mirage H.S.) scored twice.

Sophomore right fielder Giselle Maldonado (Rancho Mirage H.S.) went 2 for 3 with a run scored and two RBI's in the win.

Freshman right handed starting pitcher Nicole Rodriguez (Shadow Hills H.S.) tossed four complete innings, surrendering three runs, all earned, on five hits, walking two and striking out one and Robinson arrived in the circle for a rare relief appearance, closing out the game, giving up three hits and striking out one.
